There is a Child’s Play reboot on the way and a new trailer just released for it. And, guess what? It appears every bit as spooky as the original!
Initially hitting the big screen back in 1989, Chucky has returned and is as creepy as ever if the latest trailer is anything to judge it by. Voiced by Mark Hamill, the disembodied spirit of a serial killer dwelling inside of a doll has been bestowed with a tech-revamp – in 2019, the Buddi toy manufactured by Good Guy comes equipped with his own app even. Aubrey Plaza, who stars as Karen Barclay, has set the bar high for the new film, telling celebrity news: “To me, the original is an iconic movie. I haven’t seen our film, just the trailer, but it’s a real throwback horror movie.
“It’s almost got a Spielbergian vibe to it. The reason I did it was for how beautiful the script was. It doesn’t feel like a hokey, shticky, campy movie. I play Karen, the mother, and I have less interaction with Chucky than the actor who plays my son does. I can’t reveal too much. We’re not supposed to talk about Chucky. It builds for Karen in a way that I’m interacting with Chucky by the end, but I’m mostly dealing with my son – who I almost believe is behind the mayhem. The horror of it all will be for the audience. For me, it’s more of a psychological thriller.”
Some fans are bloody stoked about the notion of a 2019 Chucky movie, with one posting: “The new-age spin is a fire concept. I’ll give it a chance. I’ll never have a smart home.” Some, though, aren’t certain a reboot will measure up to the criterion set by the first picture. One Twitter user expressed: “This is a hard no from me. It’s basically Terminator, if I understand the trailer. That takes away the very heart of what made this movie so great. I don’t care about apps taking over, that’s stupid, if you want that make a new movie, don’t ruin this one.”
