Charles Manson was granted parole this week at the age of 79. Well, that’s the story going around Facebook anyway. The fact of the matter is that Manson, one of the most infamous killers in history, will most likely be spending the rest of his life in prison.
The hoax story started on the website Empire News and quickly spread on Facebook and Twitter.
Empire News writes: “One of the most famous killers in the American prison system will be walking free. On Tuesday Charles Manson, who is now 79 years old, was granted parole by the California Board of Parole and authorized by California Governor Jerry Brown.”
The article gathered more than 10,000 likes and shares on Facebook and Twitter.

But Charles Manson has not been granted parole. The last time the killer was up for parole was in 2012. At the time, John Peck, Manson told the panel at Corcoran State Prison in California that he was a “very dangerous man.”
