#CancelColbert Worked? Stephen Colbert To Replace David Letterman On ‘The Late Show’

Stephen Colbert Talks #CancelColbert

Stephen Colbert will replace David Letterman as the host of The Late Show and it’s all because of a little Twitter campaign called #CancelColbert.

You see, a few weeks ago the host of Comedy Central was called out for a racist tweet. (He didn’t actually send it and it didn’t actually come from his account but hey, who’s looking at the facts here?) A #CancelColbert campaign quickly went viral and now news is breaking that Stephen Colbert will be taking over The Late Show.

Coincidence? Yes, absolutely. It’s just a coincidence.

The media has been speculating about Letterman’s replacement since the comedian announced earlier this week that he was retiring. A bunch of names were thrown around and Stephen Colbert’s rose to the top.

CBS President Leslie Moonves said: “Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television … David Letterman’s legacy and accomplishments are an incredible source of pride for all of us here, and today’s announcement speaks to our commitment of upholding what he established for CBS in late night.”

Colbert said in a statement that he was honored to be taking over The Late Show.

Colbert said: “Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career …. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead. I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.”

The news quickly spread around social media and several people have chimed in to wish Colbert luck on his new show, including a few of his competitors.
