BinCam Guilts You Into Recycling By Sending Pictures Of Your Trash To Facebook

BinCam

BinCam has to be the most unique way I’ve ever seen Facebook utilized. The program, as the name suggests involves placing a camera (cam) inside a garbage bin (bin). As users throw away their garbage the camera takes pictures of the users trash and then automatically posts the contents of their trash on their Facebook account.

The point is simple, to make users aware of the recyclables they are throwing away by having their friends call them out on their wasteful garbage techniques.

The first BinCam isn’t cheap as it’s made from an Xperia X10 Mini strapped under the lid of a standard garbage can. Each time the lide is opened and then closed it takes a photo and the pictures is uploaded to the users Facebook account via the BinCam Facebook application.

Here’s a BBC video that highlights this very real piece of technology:

Would you be willing to share your garbage management skills to your friends? I can think of a large amount of items that I could throw away for which I wouldn’t want to share photos with friends.
