Ben Affleck is a historically private person so it may surprise some of his fans to learn that he has jumped on the Facebook bandwagon, launching a personal account on February 18th.
The actor however didn’t join Facebook to simply share photos and wall posts with family and friends, he actually wants to use the Facebook platform to promote understanding and awareness about the troubles currently happening in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to Niki Cruz at the Inquisitr:
The actor started doing work for the Congo in 2007, and has attested that it was his family that pushed him to look outside of himself to make a difference in others lives, specifically the woman and children who are tortured and raped in the Congo.
When asked about his efforts in the Congo the actor recently said, “I got to a point in my life where I felt like I had been very fortunate. And I wanted to do something more with my life than just make movies and try to make money. I wanted to do something that was important to me in other ways and would serve as an example to my kids.”
Affleck has been personally working to raise awareness in the Congo since 2008 and he even appeared in a special with Diane Sawyer titled “Journey to The Congo.”
Followers to Affleck’s Facebook page will find photos and various other documentation from his trips to the Congo all the way back to 2007 including information about the Eastern Congo Initiative which Affleck founded in 2010.
Ben Affleck has already received 31,567 subscriptions to his Facebook page at the time of this post and you can add to that number by visiting Facebook.com/benaffleck.
