Our pals at Bang With Friends are no strangers to controversy, but Zynga’s trademark infringement lawsuit (read about it here) has them scratching their heads, too. Mostly because it’s over probably the least controversial thing about them.
Long story short, Zynga is suing Bang With Friends over the “With Friends” part of their brand, because Zynga apparently has “with Friends” trademarked. What’s more, Zynga argues that Bang With Friends named their controversial hookup app thusly knowing full well that Zynga games all use “with Friends” all the time.
Yikes.
So I reached out to C at Bang With Friends and asked for a statement about the Zynga lawsuit. They are aware of it, but they’re waiting to see the full complaint.
Per C:
“We heard through media reports that Zynga has filed a trademark infringement claim with respect to the ‘with friends’ part of our name. As a technology company, we take intellectual property seriously and will evaluate the case in detail once we receive a copy.
“Regardless, we continue to be focused on making our users happy, so that they can help each other be happy.”
What’s this really about Zynga? The decline in the number of daily active players by 45 percent? Revenues dropping by 31 percent? A second quarter loss of nearly $16 million? We know you’re in trouble and you’re upset, but come on.
Conversely, things over at Bang With Friends have been going great lately. They’ve just mounted (pun intended) an official partnership with the film The To Do Listto reward their fans with “goodies” for their bangs.
They’re also holding a contest to determine the location of their next BWF party. I’m not sure if these devolve into orgies or not, if the locale is Chicago maybe I’ll ask for a “press pass.”
Lastly, they’re hiring! You can check out what for here.
