How long has it been since you’ve been on a scavenger hunt? Since summer camp?
If you’re in New York for Internet Week (or any other purpose) and use Foursquare, you can participate in the scavenger hunt the app is co-hosting with video metadata startup AnyClip. AnyClip- who are “busily indexing the world’s films” so you can settle debates about who said what during any film on the planet over beers-and the location based game Foursquare have devised a neat little interactive game that creatively allows users to use both services.
Here’s how it works- if you happen upon a location that was famously featured in a New York based film (Katz’s Deli and When Harry Met Sally springs to mind), there could be a QR code there for you to scan with Foursquare. You gradually unlock your “favorite movie moments,” and the winner receives six months of free movies at the Angelika Film Center on Houston.
In a press release, AnyClip CEO Oren Nauman said:
“This campaign represents a shift in the way movie studios and advertisers can think about location-based services and is the first of its kind to integrate both Hollywood classics and Blockbusters alike to drive consumer interest in a fun, unique way. Metadata is a powerful tool, and Foursquare’s open API allows us to relive movie moments, literally in the locations they were created. The consumer is then able to make an emotional connection to that physical location, and brands can use that to promote and sell their products.”
Sound fun? Would you participate in a similar promotion if you’re not local to NYC, if it were in your area?
