According to reports, police have arrested a man after they say he assaulted a woman and stole her iPod and then tried to friend her on Facebook the next day.
The Associated Press reports that the victim was sitting in the Bremerton Ferry Building in Washington when the 28-year-old Riley Allen Mullins allegedly struck her from behind and stole her purse and iPod. It is strange enough seeing someone carry an iPod these days, and even more shocking to learn that people actually still want to steal them, but that pales in comparison to what happened next: Mullins allegedly tried to “Friend” his victim on Facebook the next day.
During the robbery, the Victim didn’t get a good look at the suspect, but did notice his triangular tattoo on the back of his neck. The same tattoo that Mullin had shared to his Facebook account previously. He has now been charged with 2nd degree assault.
This certainly isn’t the first time Facebook and social media has helped criminals expose themselves and it certainly won’t be the last, but it may very well be the stupidest thing we have seen in a while. Regardless, I am willing to bet someone will top even this soon enough.
