Hunger Games Salute Used in Thai Protests

Hunger Games Salute

We’re all familiar with the salute used in Hunger Games, the symbol of the budding resistance against the reign of President Snow and the capital. In a somewhat unusual turn of events, fiction makes its way to reality as the protesters in Thailand are now using the Hunge Games salute as a symbol of their own cause.

The three-finger salute is being seen everywhere, used by Thai protesters against the military rule that is in effect in the country.

Based on an AP report:

“Raising three fingers has become a symbol in calling for fundamental political rights,” said anti-coup activist Sombat Boonngam-anong on his Facebook page. He called on people to raise “3 fingers, 3 times a day” — at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. — in safe public places where no police or military are present.

Why in “safe public places where no police or military are present”? Because this:

Alongside taking to the streets, some Thai protesters are taking to Twitter to spread word about their cause, and their use of the Hunger Games salute.

Some people from other parts of the world are also showing their support to the Thai protesters who are using the Hunger Games salute to signify their resistance.
