Al Roker abandoned his cheery disposition this morning so he could lay into New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. Roker took to his official Twitter account (@alroker) where he questioned school closings throughout the city.
On Early Thursday morning the following tweets were sent out by the Today Show host.
Why are schools all around NYC closed? It’s going to take some kid or kids getting hurt before this goofball policy gets changed
— Al Roker (@alroker) February 13, 2014
So now my daughter’s NYC public school is being let out early. @NYCMayorsOffice @NYCSchools Is it worth putting kids’ safety at risk?
— Al Roker (@alroker) February 13, 2014
And how about all the parents and caregivers who have to scramble to get their kids home? Is there no one there with any common sense?
— Al Roker (@alroker) February 13, 2014
The typically friendly meteorologist even offered a funny “forecast” for the Mayor’s time in office:
I knew this am @NYCMayorsOffice @NYCSchools would close schools. Talk about a bad prediction. Long range DiBlasio forecast: 1 term
— Al Roker (@alroker) February 13, 2014
During a press conference later in the day Bill de Blasio was asked about Roker’s comment, to which he responded, “It’s a different thing to run a city than to give weather on TV.”
Not pleased with the NYC Mayor’s response Al Roker shot back:
Mr. Mayor, I could never run NYC, but I know when it’s time to keep kids home from school
— Al Roker (@alroker) February 13, 2014
So why were schools only opened for a short period of time in New York City? According to city officials, if some kids don’t go to school they miss important meals they never receive at home.
Do you think Al Roker was right to tweet an attack against the Mayor’s office?
