Actor from The League, Buffalo Wild Wings Commercials Lied About 9/11 Escape

Actor and comedian Steve Rannazzisi, best known for appearing on the FXX fantasy football sitcom The League, has admitted to lying about narrowly escaping death on 9/11.

519teve Rannazzisi is an actor and comedian best known for appearing in the FXX series “The League”, as well as in a number of TV spots for Buffalo Wild Wings. For years, he’s maintained that the events of 9/11 inspired him to give up his day job and pursue his artistic passions. In an interview with the New York Times, however, Rannazzisi admitted his inspiring story was a work of fiction.

According to the NYT:

In elaborate detail, Mr. Rannazzisi, 37, has described working at Merrill Lynch’s offices on the 54th floor of the south tower when the first plane struck the north tower … He fled to the street just minutes before another plane slammed into his building, he said, and decided that very day that life was too precious to waste opportunities. So he abandoned his New York desk job to pursue a career as an entertainer in Los Angeles.

After being confronted with contradictory evidence, Rannazzisi retracted his story:

Confronted this week, though, with evidence that undermined his account, Mr. Rannazzisi, after a day of deliberation, acknowledged on Tuesday that his account was fiction. Actually, he had been working in Midtown that day, and not for Merrill Lynch, which has no record of his employment and had no offices in either tower.

The League actor Steve Rannazzisi admitted to the New York Times that his story about narrowing surviving the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City was a work of fiction.

The admission has prompted Buffalo Wild Wings to “reconsider” their relationship with Rannazzisi, stating the performer also lists inaccurate information about where he went to college on his official website.
