97% Of Top Brands Use Twitter, Reveals New Report

Twitter has become a hot destination for brands to interact with customers, and a new report reveals that 97.6 percent of top brands tweeted so far in 2013.

This number is up from 90 percent in 2012, and 62 percent in 2011. Brandwatch analyzed the top 253 brands across multiple categories, and in multiple countries.

45.5 percent tweeted 10 to 39 times per week, around 14 percent tweeted 50 to 59 times, and less than 10 percent tweeted 100 to 199 times.

69 percent of top brands are using Twitter to broadcast and engage while 25 percent are broadcasting only.

Only 3 percent have accounts setup for engagement only related to customer service.

In 2013, 65 percent have multiple accounts, up from 35 percent in 2012. In 2011, just seven percent of top brands had multiple Twitter accounts.

On average, brands in the U.K. and U.S. have four team members that help manage accounts.

When it came to what tools were used to access Twitter, 39 percent used “Other,” 30 percent used Twitter.com, 18 percent used Hootsuite and 8 percent used TweetDeck.

The “Other” category saw the largest increase from 2012 by 10 percent, and top brand usage of Hootsuite saw the largest decrease at 6 percent.

There are definitely many Twitter tools to choose from, and 57 percent said they had started using another tool or switched to a new tool over the past year.
