Facebook

While 30 percent of U.S. adults consume news on Facebook, according to new data published by Mashable, 80 percent of likes and shares occur outside of the United States.

It’s easy to assume that the U.S. is the biggest market for Facebook, but according to the social network’s Q3 2013 earnings, 83 percent of monthly active users come from other parts of the world.

According to Mashable, here is the percentage of like and share button engagement in different countries:

  • Asia-Pacific – 21 percent
  • Western Europe – 21 percent
  • U.S. – 20 percent
  • Central and Eastern Europe – 18 percent
  • Latin America – 13 percent
  • Canada – 3 percent
  • Africa – 3 percent
  • Middle East – 2 percent

Last week, Facebook confirmed that since rolling out its redesigned like and share buttons, engagement has increased five percent.
