BASE jumping is all about the adrenaline rush, and three men set out to tackle One World Trade Center in New York City, which is still undergoing construction.
The actual jump took place at 3 AM on September 30, 2013, but a new video uploaded Monday gives us a bird’s eye view of the 1,776-foot jump.
Currently a trending topic on Facebook, what also has the daredevils in the news is they were arrested shortly after the video was posted.
They’re facing charges of misdemeanor jumping from a structure, misdemeanor reckless endangerment and felony burglary after reportedly slipping through a security gate.
From Police Commissioner William Bratton:
“These men violated the law and placed themselves, as well as others, in danger. These arrests should send a message to anyone thinking about misusing a landmark this way. They will be tracked down and they will face serious charges. Being a thrill-seeker does not give immunity from the law.”
However, nobody was hurt, and maybe what truly needs to be investigated are the security guards who let the men through in the first place.
Last week, a 16-year-old was also able to evade security at One World Trade Center, and spent two hours atop the fourth-tallest skyscraper in the world.
