27% Of Employees Are Strongly Encouraged To Post About Their Company

Social Media Survey

Social media is often used to find potential employees, and according to a new survey, 27 percent of employees are strongly encouraged to post about their company.

VentureBeat created a nine-question survey on the topic of social media at work, and today shared some early findings.

While 27 percent are strongly encouraged, 17 percent of respondents said they are required to post about their company, and its work on personal social media accounts.

The top four social networks employees are required to post to are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+. For employees simply encouraged to post on social media, LinkedIn came in at number one.

From VentureBeat:

Companies that require employees to use personal accounts are also more likely to require the public display of personal data on the company website.

The type of data includes one’s name, picture, email, social handles and personal mobile phone number, in that order.

Results also showed that companies requiring the use of social media were most likely to ask employees aged 26 to 35.

VentureBeat also asked “Do you feel your privacy is being violated?” among employees required to post on social media, and those not required.

Among those required, 65 percent said yes, 22 percent said no and 13 percent were unsure.

Among employees not required to use social media, 44 percent said yes, 44 percent said no and 12 percent were unsure.
