If you need a testament to the growing power of social, look no further than the impressive amount of social giving that occurred in 2012.
A new infographic put together by MDG Advertising shows how social is changing the way we give by reflecting on the volume of social giving and social good that occurred throughout 2012. Via MDG:
“The infographic opens with a look at online giving and reveals the channels that charities leverage most. It shows that Facebook is favored by 98 percent of nonprofits, followed by Twitter trusted by 74 percent, YouTube utilized by 66 percent, and LinkedIn used by nearly half of charities. Interestingly, individual donations are the most requested and received by these foundations on Facebook.”
Online donations are up, and young people are more apt to give if they can do so through social. Networks have made it easier to give, as well. Many have added donation options like Facebook Gifts. Additionally, viral social giving movements have increased in popularity.
Some more highlights from the infographic:
- This years #GivingTuesday, a social themed giving event on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving where foundations worldwide reach out to their social media followers for online donations, raised $10 million in a single day.
- The average donation through social media in 2012 was $59, up $4 from 2011
- The addition of Twitter generates almost 10 times more money for a fundraising campaign
Here’s the social giving infographic. If you donated to a cause through social this year, go ahead and pat yourself on the back.
