Social networks aren’t nearly as popular for the world’s top CEOs. A new study reveals that only 18 percent of top CEOs have at least one social media account. The study put together by PR and communications firm Weber Shandwick examined the social behavior of the world’s top 50 Chief Executives.
The reputation of a CEO is very important to a corporation as 49 percent of a company’s reputation is attributed to its leader. While only 18 percent of the top CEOs have at least one social networking account, the percentage of top 50 CEOs who are social has risen from 36 percent in 2010 to 66 percent in 2012.
CEOs appearing in videos on sites such as YouTube has increased from 18 percent in 2010 to 40 percent in 2012. 48 percent of top CEOs who have been on the job for three years or less are social, while 79 percent of CEOs who have been on the job for three years or more are social.
Social CEOs lead the way in terms of a higher reputational status at 81 percent. The US has the most social CEOs at 80 percent with European CEOs at 67 percent and Asia-Pacific CEOs at 55 percent.
