Three months ago Zach Braff debuted his Kickstarter-funded project Wish I Were Here at Sundance. Today, the films first trailer and Braff’s name are trending on Facebook.
The trailer, played to the track “Simple Song” by The Shins, arrives 10 years after Braff debuted Garden State.
Braff co-wrote the movie with his brother Adam J. Braff. The movie centers around a 35-year-old struggling actor and father, who sets out to find his identity and general purpose in life. Because he can’t afford to pay for a private education for his two children, he decides to homeschool them.
The first trailer is visual heavy with very few spoken words. However, the “feel” of the trailer seems along the lines of what we witnessed with Garden State. The only thing we know for certain is that Zach Braff loves The Shins, the very same band that helmed Garden State’s original trailer.
Also starring in the Zach Braff headlined film are Joey King, Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad and Ashley Greene.
In debuting the trailer on YouTube Braff writes, “Dear Friends, The first teaser trailer for “Wish I Was Here.” Please share it with your friends. I hope you like it, Love, Zach.”
Wish I Was Here debuts on July 25. Sundance critics were not overly pleased with the Garden State follow-up.
