Having a hard time gaining engagement on your Facebook page? You might want to consider using more photo posts. A new study by SocialBakers finds that Facebook photos still receive the highest level of engagement among all forms of posting on the network.
To conduct its survey SocialBakers looked at three different Facebook page sizes (1-99,999 fans, 100,000-999,999 fans, and 1,000,000+ fans). The company examined photo uploads, links, statuses, and videos.
According to SocialBaker’s social media analyst Phillip Ross:
“By examining the average number of interactions that the different post types received, photos’ dominance becomes even clearer. Firstly, it is essential to segment the monitored pages according to page size. Much larger pages have a wider reach (and often, higher budgets), so it logically follows that each post type would increase its average number of interactions as the size of the pages increase. Photos garner the highest average number of interactions per post for all three page sizes, but it is not until the largest group of pages (1,000,000+) that the difference becomes extreme.”
Video and Albums receive a very low (3–4%) of total interactions, while links and albums fair slightly better at 4%. Photo engagement is far superior at 87% of all interaction.
Keep in mind that the SocialBaker study does not claim that your Facebook photos will deliver guaranteed engagement, only that photos once engaged with, tend to lend themselves to more likes, comments, and shares.
We live in a visual web and this study once again proves that Facebook photo posts are still an incredibly important strategy for page administrators.
