More than 78,000 copies of Girl Online, the debut novel from Zoe Sugg, were sold in its first week. It is a new record for a debut novel in the UK.
So what made Girl Online so popular? Well, we don’t know much about the actual book but we do know that Zoe Sugg has more than 6.5 million subscribers on YouTube. Which makes her online personality, Zoella, a pretty powerful advertising tool.
The Telegraph reports that Girl Online is the first of a two-book deal. The second novel, which will be a prequel to Girl Online will be released in 2015. And according to Penguin Random House CEO Tom Weldon, there could be several more books to come.
Weldon told The Verge that he plans on selling Zoella’s books for “many years to come.”
And while Zoe Sugg works on her already successful literary career, she’ll also continue to build her social media following. Here is one of Zoella’s most popular videos – a ten minute segment on hairstyles – that has been viewed more than 7 million times.
