YouTube Co-Founder Chad Hurley Names New Site ‘MixBit’

YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley recently announced plans to launch a new video collaboration website, on Monday he revealed the sites name. Hurley is calling his new project MixBit.

Poking fun at Google’s April Fool’s Day announcement that it was closing down YouTube Hurley sent out the following tweet:

Hurley claims MixBit is not a YouTube competitor but rather a new way to create videos among groups of two or more people.

Visiting the MixBit website users find the following message:

“Instead of sitting around, we thought you’d want a new site to not only watch cat videos, but create them… together!”

Joining Hurley is fellow YouTube co-founder Steve Chen. The two men recently worked on personalized magazine creation site Zeen. They also sold YouTube to Google for $1.65 billion in 2006.
