Yahoo! has replaced CBS Sports as the “Official Fantasy Game of MLB.com.”
Visitors to the Major League Baseball webpage will now notice a prominent link to the Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball sign-up page. Under terms of the deal Yahoo! can now use Major League Baseball trademarks alongside promotion of its fantasy baseball contests. Yahoo! executives have been working endlessly to tie the network into every major U.S. professional sport. The company already has similar deals with the NBA and NHL.
Before naming CBS as its official provider in 2013, Major League Baseball had operated its own external fantasy league contests.
Yahoo! also offers pay-to-enter, play-for-cash leagues, along with its free leagues. It is still unclear if MLB trademarks will be allowed alongside paid MLB contests.
Fantasy sports leagues have exploded in recent years, creating their own respectable social networks of sports fans, fanatics who are hyper-focused on winning their leagues and claiming online bragging rights.
