63-year-old Melodee Mysel, of Miami, visited the lottery HQ in Tallahassee to claim a top prize of $500,000 from a $5 Extra Play scratch-off ticket, said the Florida Lottery.
Officials said she purchased the winning ticket in Miami at the Lamri Citgo station.
Previously, Mysel visited lottery headquarters two years ago when she hit a $1,000,000 jackpot from a $10,000,000 Fortune scratch-off ticket.

Aside from the $1.6 billion lottery ticket won in South Carolina earlier this year, the largest single-winning jackpot was won by Mavis L. Wanczyk of Massachusetts. She claimed the Powerball winning ticket for the $758.7 million jackpot in August of 2017. Right after, she telephoned Mercy Medical Center (her employer), where she had worked for 32 years, and politely quit. “I’ve called them and told them I will not be coming back,” said Wanczyk after striking it rich. She elected to take the prize’s lump sum, receiving $480.5 million before taxes.
To increase your chances of winning the lottery, try:
- Purchasing more than one ticket (the lotto’s a numbers game, literally – the more tickets bought will increase your odds of winning)
- Quit while you are ahead! Well, unless you’re Melodee Mysel
- Play less often, but purchase more
- Join a lottery pool
- Keep in mind that the other tickets don’t affect your tickets (in most lotteries)
- Check, double-check, triple-check your tickets!
