Survey Says: Women Lie Constantly On Facebook, Twitter

According to a recent survey, women constantly lie about their lives on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to make their lives appear more exciting.

The survey included responses from 2,000 women, and found that at least one in four women exaggerate or give an otherwise false impression about their life on social media once a month. More often than not, women pretended to be out of town when they’re at home and exaggerated details about a vacation or their job. One in five women lied about their relationship status.

So why do y’all ladies lie so much on social?

Responses ranged. The most common reasons women lie on social is because they worry that their lives seem “boring,” jealousy over other people’s more exciting posts (but now you know, they’re probably lying too) and wanting to impress their friends and acquaintances (see?).

And, of course, psychologists were quick to point out the ugly truth about social. Sometimes our efforts to “stay connected” through social media leaves us “more isolated.” A paradox.

They also said that the “more we try to make our lives seem perfect, the less perfect we feel.”

“We work very hard presenting ourselves to the world online, pretending and attempting to be happy all the time which is exhausting and ultimately un-fulfilling,” British consultant and psychologist Dr. Michael Sinclair told the Telegraph.

“Omitting the less desirable imperfections of our lives from the conversations with our ‘friends’ online leads to less opportunity to feel empathized with, resulting in a greater sense of disconnection from others.”

The survey was commissioned by Pencourage, and performed by OnePoll.

Sound off, ladies! Do you lie on your social media accounts? What about?
