WhatsApp Surpasses 400 Million Monthly Active Users

WhatsApp

WhatsApp launched a new design on iOS earlier this month, and today the mobile messaging service announced it has surpassed 400 million monthly active users.

In October, it announced 350 million monthly active users, and according to Co-Founder and CEO Jan Koum, has added 100 million active users in just the past four months.

From the WhatsApp Blog:

When we say that you made this possible, we mean it. WhatsApp has just 50 employees, and most of us are engineers. We’ve arrived at this point without spending a dollar on targeted ads or big marketing campaigns. We’re here because of all the people who share their WhatsApp stories with co-workers, friends, and loved ones – stories we love to hear.

Unlike other apps which rely off a freemium model, WhatsApp charges 99 cents per year, and is available on all major mobile platforms.
