WeChat may not be $19 billion richer like competitor WhatsApp, but according to creator Tencent, the messaging app has surpassed 355 million monthly active users.
Today, Tencent published its earnings report for Q4 2013, and revealed that WeChat users have increased 121 percent from Q4 2012.
“In international markets, WeChat achieved robust aggregate user growth, but we are increasingly focused on driving engagement in specific target geographic regions. Looking ahead, we aim to further improve user engagement on Weixin and WeChat by enhancing the core communications and social functions.”
Weixin is the Chinese counterpart, and Tencent saw a nine percent increase in revenue for the fourth quarter to $2.783 billion.
Last week, investment banking company CLSA valued WeChat at between $35 and $64 billion, a far cry from the WhatsApp deal with Facebook.
