Wall Street Journal Twitter Account Hacked

The main Wall Street Journal Twitter account was hacked Tuesday afternoon May 7th.

The hacking was apparently undertaken by the Syrian Electronic Army as part of a dispute with a security researcher the hacker group dislikes

The @WSJD account tweeted a headshot of security expert Ira Winkler on the body of a cockroach, with the text “@Irawinkler is a cockroach.”

Winkler has made his name as an expert of the Syrian Electronic Army, including consulting with companies that are targeted by the group.

The Syrian Electronic Army has previously hijacked the AP account tweeting that the White House had been bombed.

Along with hacking the main @WSJD, the organization also hacked  @WSJEurope@WSJAfrica, and @WSJVintage.

Ownership of the accounts was returned to the News Corp owned Wall Street Journal late Tuesday.
