Vine is a popular video sharing app that hit the scene in January 2013, and according to a new report from GlobalWebIndex, it’s the fastest-growing app in the world.
GWI analyzed mobile app growth between Q1 and Q3 2013, and found that Vine grew its audience by 403 percent to an estimated user base of 23.65 million.
Here is how much other mobile apps grew, including their estimated user base:
- Flickr – 146 percent, 45.78 million users
- Instagram – 130 percent, 109.07 million users
- WhatsApp – 123 percent, 169.68 million users
- Facebook – 115 percent, 394.09 million users
- Skype – 111 percent, 192.57 million users
- YouTube – 110 percent, 308.83 million users
- Twitter – 109 percent, 203.66 million users
- Foursquare – 108 percent, 53.13 million users
- Facebook Messenger – 107 percent, 192.55 million users
- Google+ – 103 percent, 277.50 million users
- Yelp – 103 percent, 26.71 million users
- Shazam – 90 percent, 41.54 million users
- Google Maps – 82 percent, 474.34 million users
- Ovi Maps – 54 percent, 83.81 million users
While Vine may have experienced massive growth, it ranked second to last in percentage of mobile Internet users at just three percent.

- Twitter – 23 percent
- Skype – 22 percent
- Facebook Messenger – 22 percent

- Ovi Maps – 10 percent
Big brands have also taken part in Vine, with companies like Tide creating this clip inspired by Carrie.
