Twitter is continuing its rapid expansion, announcing on Tuesday that there are now 200 million monthly active users on the popular micro-blogging service. In March 2012 Twitter announced that it had reached 140 million monthly active users. The current growth rate marks a 42 percent increase in the networks active user base in just under a one years time.
In March Twitter announced 340 million tweets per day, that number has since climbed to over 400 million daily tweets or 1 billion tweets every 60 hours.
Showcasing its growth Twitter notes that in September 2011 the network had just 50 million daily active users. Based on historical data that means Twitter actually grew faster in the last 9 months then it did in the previous 7 month spread.
While Twitter has never increased at the same rapid rates of Google+, Facebook and LinkedIn, the network has worked hard to fight against spam accounts, ensuring that its numbers become increasingly more solid in terms of real user accounts.
With an ever increasing user base Twitter continues to combat spam and work to find new and useful ways for small, medium and large sized businesses to engage with audiences through new cutting edge advertising options.
