YouTube had another great year and to celebrate its increasing user base the company has put together a list of the top 10 YouTube videos of 2012.
The list of videos were posted to the YouTube Rewind 2012 channel. A new video on YouTube’s official channel accompanies the top 10 videos of the year with popular YouTubers in a mashup of Gangnam Style and Call Me Maybe.
You may recognize a few of them:
At number one on the list for top 10 Youtube videos of 2012 is Gangnam Style by Psy. In just five months, the addictive music video is at almost one billion views.
At number two is a cover of Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know with 140 million views since January 5. What makes this cover different is that five people are playing on the same guitar.
At number three is the 30 minute Kony 2012 documentary from nonprofit Invisible Children. It makes the cut as one of the top 10 YouTube videos of 2012 with almost 95 million views.
Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen was another big hit and this video below features lots of lip syncing among a few younger celebrities.
Epic Rap Battles of History hit gold during election season with Barack Obama versus Mitt Romney. The video takes the number five spot with over 45 million views.
In Belgium, TNT launched its new channel with a bang, putting together an action packed scene in public. Since being uploaded on April 11, it has almost 40 million views.
Spoken Reasons struck a chord with everyone who’s ever been in a relationship with his video “WHY YOU ASKING ALL THEM QUESTIONS?.” Like TNT’s video, it has almost 40 million views.
Lindsey Stirling and her beautifully shot violin videos have been a huge hit, this one below incorporating Dubstep which has over 38 million views.
After a teen posted on Facebook about how tough and unfair her life was, her Dad did what he thought was best: Post a video talking about it and then shoot her laptop several times. The video generated over 35 million views.
Closing out the top 10 YouTube videos of 2012 was Felix Baumgartner’s amazing skydive from 128,000 feet. Since being uploaded on October 14, the video has seen over 30 million views.
