Twitter Announces New Search Functions, Partners With Photobucket

Twitter is jumping into the photo hosting and sharing arena full force, on the same day that the company revealed their new photo setup they have also announced two new search capabilities, the first which improves overall search capabilities and the second which allows for photo searching.

The first bit of good news is a new search platform for the company which is expected to bring with it “more relevant” tweets while showing ‘”related pictures’ and “related videos” in the right-side pane during searches, an option meant to quickly show off the photo hosting and sharing feature from the company.

Twitter has also teamed with Mozilla to offer a built-in Twitter feature. According to Twitter:

And if you use this new version of Firefox with Twitter, you can type a #hashtag or @username directly into the address bar to go right to a search results page (try #idol) or someone’s profile page (like @nba). Simple.

As expected Twitter has also officially announced a bit of news about their photo hosting and sharing capabilities which will allow users to upload photos directly from Twitter.com and through mobile clients. They have also announced that those photos will not be placed on their own servers, but instead hosted on Photobucket. Many users, myself included has worried about Twitter’s infrastructure stability when it comes to hosting user photos, with Photobucket on their side users will not only be able to share photos, they will have a trusted photo management system on their side.

On the photo side Twitter executives have also announced a coming feature which will allow for mobile MMS capabilities for picture attachment of Twitter messages.

Here’s the official Twitter demonstration of their new features which quite honestly equal awesomeness:
