‘Toy Story 4’ Confirmed, Gets Mixed Reactions From Twitter

For many, Toy Story 3 was the perfect end to the Toy Story franchise, so when Pixar announced that it was making Toy Story 4, well, some people were pretty disappointed.

Many of the negative reactions focused on two ideas: First, there is just simply no way that Pixar can make a movie that lives up to the original trilogy. And second, this is just a cash grab from Disney.

John Lasseter, who directed the first two Toy Story movies and who will return for the fourth installment, put some of those fears to rest last night.

Lasseter said:  “We love these characters so much, they are like family to us … We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie — and I wanted to direct it myself.”

Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending for an audience of a certain age, but now Pixar is ready to start fresh with a new generation. Do you think they’ll be able to recapture the magic?

Tim Allen and Tom Hanks will return to voice Buzz Lightyear and Woody. The original writing team from Toy Story, including Andrew Stanton and Pete Docter, will also return for the new movie. They will be joined by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack.
