The importance of social media for the legal profession

We all know it and have an account on it, Facebook, Instagram and Tictoc. Influencers are plentiful and are hired by many companies to make videos and promote products or services. What is largely missing, however, is the legal profession on social media and personal injury lawyers in particular. Why is this and can it be wise for the legal profession to also use the various social media channels?

What is personal injury?

Do you ever wonder why a lawyer does not often appear on social media? While many people still find the legal profession interesting. For example, look at all the television series there are about the legal profession, such as Suits.

Let’s take personal injury as an example. If you experience a bicycle accident (Dutch: fietsongeluk) overkomt due to the actions of someone else, you can claim personal injury. At least if the other party is liable. You are then entitled to all costs incurred, such as bicycle repair costs and medical costs. But there is always a right to compensation for damages after an accident. Compensation for damages (Dutch: smartengeld) is compensation for the suffering caused to someone as a result of a collision or industrial accident. This may include pain, fear of driving, an unsightly scar or psychological complaints.

Personal injury is therefore the damage that someone suffers as a result of a traffic accident, industrial accident or dog bite.

Why no personal injury lawyers on social media

If we see a lawyer on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube, it is often a criminal lawyer. This is also understandable. Criminal law is exciting and interesting for many people to hear about and watch. A lawyer who shows prison, the court and his private life as a personal injury lawyer is quite exciting. It is not surprising that there are people who want to watch a video of a criminal lawyer.

This is very different with other lawyers. Who wants to see how a personal injury lawyer does his or her work? Or is it interesting to use social media as a personal injury lawyer or employment law lawyer?

Benefits of social media for lawyers

Social media can be interesting for personal injury lawyers, employment law lawyers and other lawyers. This can be good for the brand awareness of a law firm. By making videos on Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube and focusing on a specific area, you as a lawyer can ensure that people know you and know where to find them when they need a lawyer.

Another advantage of using social media is that you can share information. For example, a personal injury lawyer who can explain what you are entitled to after a collision or who is liable if you are the victim of an industrial accident or dog bite.

So, if you are a lawyer, consider getting involved on social media, perhaps it will increase turnover and profit. In any case, it’s fun to do!
