‘The Goonies II’ Script Reportedly Being Written By Steven Spielberg

News of The Goonies II has been trending on Facebook

News of The Goonies II has been trending on Facebook since the original film’s director, Richard Donner, announced on TMZ that there was a sequel in the works. And now it seems the script is reportedly being written by Goonies-native Steven Spielberg, who too contributed to the original film’s content.

The Goonies original screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg.

Earlier in April, Social News Daily reported on the breaking news of Donner casually mentioning to reporters, while signing autographs, that The Goonies II was a go.

The first film, released in 1985, featured a band of teens who reside in the “Goon Docks” neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, who are mere days from being forced from their homes. The area is scheduled to be demolished, and the kids realize they’ll likely never see one another again as they are all being disbanded.

Desperate, with their days numbered, the kids go to extreme links in an attempt save the Goon Docks.

Following the apropos discovery of an old map, this crew of teenage misfits find themselves immersed in a pirate-themed treasure hunt involving an infamous 17th-century buccaneer named One-Eyed Willie, a murderous family of counterfeiters (the Fratellis) hot on their trail, and booby-traps.

While the original film had a predominant teen cast, the story primarily focused on the events surrounding Mikey (played by Sean Astin, now 43) and his older brother Brand (Josh Brolin, 46).

Donner recently shared an update with TMZ reporters, eluding to Steven Spielberg’s involvement in the sequel project.

No specifics as to the plot for The Goonies II have been revealed.
