A 16-year-old boy has survived a 5 1/2 hour flight from California to Hawaii, despite freezing cold temperatures and a near lack of oxygen inside the wheel base of Hawaiian Airlines Flight 45.
After the plane landed and the teen was discovered on the tarmac, he was questioned by the FBI. Spokesman Tom Simon in Honolulu told The Associated Press on Sunday night. “It’s amazing he survived that.”
Security footage at the San Jose airport shows the boy hopping a fence and then sneaking into the Boeing 767’s landing gear.
According to officials, “He was unconscious for the lion’s share of the flight.”
After a medical screening doctors determined that the boy was unharmed. He had run away from his family after an argument.
Officials are now focused on the fact that a 16-year-old boy was able to subvert airport security in San Jose. Following the incident Rep. Eric Swalwell tweeted:
I have long been concerned about security at our airport perimeters. #Stowaway teen demonstrates vulnerabilities that need to be addressed.

The incident is now being investigated by the FBI and the Transportation Security Agency.
The 16-year-old boy was released to child protective services and was not charged with a crime.
Officials for Hawaiian Airlines say they are just happy that the boys flight inside the planes wheel did not end in tragedy.
The Maui flight news was just crazy enough to trend on Facebook.
Users of the social network also seemed shocked that something like this could happen:
