Star Wars: Episode VII Cast Finally Announced, People Are Already Complaining On Twitter

After months of being teased by Star Wars alums Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher on Twitter, the official casting announcement for Star Wars: Episode VII has been handed down by Lucasfilm, and yes, Luke, Leia and Han are back.

They’ll be joining returning stars Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker, as well as an all-new cast of big names like John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.

Director J.J. Abrams seemed pretty relieved about finally sharing casting information after many months of speculation and rumor.

“We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud,” he said.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be released on December 18, 2015. The screenplay was written by original trilogy co-writer Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams, and John Williams will return as the composer.

It’s turning out to be a big week for casting announcements. Yesterday, Marvel revealed more details about its street-level “Defenders” package which will debut exclusively on Netflix in 2015. Marvel boss Joe Quesada confirmed that the Netflix programs, which will include Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, will take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside The Avengers and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Though casting information was not revealed at the time, some sort of announcement for Daredevil was promised to arrive soon, possibly within the next couple of days. Disney owns both Star Wars and Marvel, so it’s likely that these announcements will rub elbows this week, though they obviously don’t want them stepping on each other.

Here’s how people on Twitter are reacting to the Star Wars: Episode VII casting announcement:
