When the cast was announced for Star Wars: Episode 7, a lot of people were disappointed that it didn’t feature more women. Well, that changed today when Disney announced that Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o and Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie would be heading to a galaxy far far away.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said via press release: “I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII. It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
Twitter was also pretty excited about the announcement.
OH MY GOD. LUPITA HAS BEEN ADDED TO STAR WARS VII.

Lupita Nyong’o joins cast of new Star Wars! Can’t wait to see how they make little use of her in the film! — Victor LaValle (@victorlavalle) June 2, 2014
So glad to hear that @lovegwendoline is joining the cast of Star Wars….she is all kinds of wonderful.

Lupita and Gwendoline are in the new Star Wars. I rescind nearly all of my anger over the lack of female casting.

It’s unclear who the new cast members will be playing in Star Wars: Episode 7. It was previously rumored that Lupita would be playing a lead role as Obi Won-Kenobi’s granddaughter. We have no idea who Gwendoline will be playing but we’re guessing she’ll be some type of awesome warrior in the new film. But will she be on the dark side?
