While most users turn on Spotify for its extremely large database of music, the song streaming network also features an impressive collection of stand-up routines from some of the planets top comedians. Now Spotify is attempting to curate even more of that content with the help of YouTube channel Official Comedy.
On Tuesday Spotify announced a new Official Comedy app that aggregates funny content online and then places it inside the platforms comedy audio library.
Already featured via the Spotify app is comedian Aziz Ansari and his album “Dangerously Ansari” and Jerry Seinfeld and his work “I’m Telling You For The Last Time.” Other comedians features include the likes of Margaret Cho, Kevin Hart, and the hugely popular Louis C.K., among various others.
In a statement announcing the new Spotify app of comeday Ken Parks, Spotify’s chief content officer, reveals:
“The Official Comedy app on Spotify gives our users access to a customized comedy experience that is just as extensive as our music experience.”
The app is curated and edited by Official Comedy. The YouTube channels creators create playlists that focus on various themes such as Royal Baby Fever! and Good Sex Scandals!
Here are a few more comedians that were provided at the time of launch: Hannibal Buress, Bill Cosby, Ellen DeGeneres, Jim Gaffigan, Artie Lange, Steve Martin, Patton Oswalt, Monty Python, Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman and Daniel Tosh.
It appears that the Spotify comedy app is available in all 28 markets for which the audio streaming platform operates.
