Google Chromecast Gets iFixit Teardown Treatment: It’s A Very Simple Video Streamer

iFixIt Google Chromecast Teardown

The team at iFixit creates some of our favorite teardown posts on the internet. Usually the iFixit team pulls apart complex devices like the Apple iPad or a Galaxy S4. This time they tried something far more simple, the Google Chromecast USB dongle.

The Google Chromecast is the newest addition to the online video streaming sector. Using the $35 device users can stream Netflix, YouTube, and other various social video streaming platforms.

With its very simple form factor the teardown led iFixit to proclaim that there’s “nothing in it to repair”.

So what did we learn? The Google Chromecast features a relatively large aluminum heatsink and it’s easy to open.

Check out the image above and then head over to iFixit to see the full teardown which is documented with various photos.

Does the Chromecast give you hope for the future of social online video viewing?
