SoundCloud Tracks Now Embed In Google+ Stream

SoundCloud

Google+ is slowly integrating more third-party services, and today rolled out SoundCloud embedding within the stream. The integration is live to all users, and you can now listen to tracks without having to leave.

Users will see the same audio player found on the social network, and are able to easily “love” or reshare tracks to their SoundCloud from the Google+ stream.

Snoop Lion and Pearl Jam helped kick off the new integration, and users are encouraged to share their favorite tracks using the hashtag #summersound.

Since launching in 2011, Google+ has been very slow and selective with integrating third-party services.

According to Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice President of Engineering, Google does not want to open up an API while serious changes are continually being made. This leads to frustrated developers, and can seriously hurt a platform.

Instead, Google+ is taking a different approach that, while opens them up to much criticism, will hopefully be a winning approach in the long run.

SoundCloud now joins the rank of other third-party services like Flipboard which rolled out Google+ integration in June 2012.
