If you’re wondering why some social media profiles have a purple hue to them today, look no further than Chevrolet and its campaign to spread awareness on World Cancer Day. To mark the day, Chevrolet announced that it will donate $1 every time someone “purples” their Facebook or Twitter profile.
Chevy promoted the campaign with an emotional ad on Super Bowl Sunday, featuring Misty Mondok and her fiance. Misty has stage II ovarian cancer and must travel two hours every week to go to chemotherapy.
On its website for the campaign, the automaker explained, “Chevrolet and Chevrolet dealers have bene dedicated supporters of the American Cancer Society for 11 years. And we’re not done yet.”
The automaker added that “action is the strongest way to improve the lives of those with cancer today and help find cures to end the disease tomorrow.” So, Chevy will donate up to $1 million dollars to the American Cancer Society.
If you want to help out, and help Chevy reach its donation max, go to the campaign website and either purple your Facebook or Twitter by clicking on the buttons. Just accept permissions, purple the photo, and share the campaign with friends.
The automaker also encouraged people to donate to the American Cancer Society through their website and to get involved by giving someone in recovery a ride to and from treatment with the Purple Roads initiative.
