Auto-deleting message platform Snapchat has debuted SnapKidz, a platform that is restricted to users 13 and younger.
Before the new release the platform restricted Snapchat to users over the age of 13. The company on Monday changed its policy by introducing SnapKidz, a new update that brings kid friendly features to the system.
In a blog post the company says children are still restricted from using the main Snapchat platform:
“Instead they are able to use “SnapKidz” a version of Snapchat that includes an interface for taking snaps, captioning, drawing, and saving them locally on the device, but does not support sending or receiving snaps or adding friends.”
Essentially SnapKidz is a photo and drawing app for kids that removes the message sending feature. The new SnapKidz software is available as part of an update to the company’s iOS app. If successful an Android version of SnapKidz may be available in the future.
Snapchat is believed to be seeking out a new round of funding and a PG-rated version of its popular software for kids could be a move in the right direction.
Do you think kids will flock to SnapKidz or will Snapchat still be left with a battle over the under 13 crowd?
