Sim Bhullar Makes NBA History, Signs With Sacramento Kings

Sim Bhullar, the 7 foot 5 center from Mexico State, became the NBA’s first player of Indian descent last night when he signed a contract with the Sacramento Kings.

ESPN reports that Bhullar probably won’t see much court time this upcoming season. The 7-foot-5 center, who helped the Kings win the NBA’s summer league tournament, will most likely land a spot on the team’s Development League.

Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, said:

“I’ve long believed that India is the next great frontier for the NBA, and adding a talented player like Sim only underscores the exponential growth basketball has experienced in that nation. While Sim is the first player of Indian descent to sign with an NBA franchise, he represents one of many that will emerge from that region as the game continues to garner more attention and generate ever-increasing passion among a new generation of Indian fans.”

Sim Bhullar made history last night by signing an NBA contract. If he has a successful training camp, he could make history again when he steps onto the court for an official NBA game.

Bhullar helped the Mexico State Aggies make the NCAA Tournament in 2013 and 2014. He averaged 10.2 points, 2.9 blocks, and 7.2 rebounds.
