When Shaun White withdrew from the Slopestyle competition last week, many people thought that the US had no hope of earning a medal during the snowboarding competition at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Sage Kotsenburg wasn’t one of those people.
Well, OK, maybe he was one of those people. After making the finals Kotsenburg wrote on Twitter that he was totally surprise to be fighting for a gold medal.
Whoa how random is this I made finals at the Olympics!!!

Shaun White is the most well-known snowboarder in America but the Olympian pulled out of the slopestyle last week saying that he was concerned about the course. White was criticized for the move but it doesn’t look like he’s going to regret the decision.
Congrats to @sagekotsenburg @stalesandbech @markmcmorris !!! #TeamUSA
