President Obama To Begin Tweeting From @BarackObama

President Barack Obama announced on Friday that he will begin tweeting to his @BarackObama account on a regular basis.

According to the President his staff will be managing his Twitter and Facebook accounts to prepare his media presence for his upcoming 2012 reelection effort. A rep for the President then revealed that Obama would be penning many of his own tweets and Facebook updates and that users will know if President Obama has posted messages himself as they will be signed with the ending characters “-BO”

While the @BarackObama account has been open for the last four years it was vastly underutilized until the President’s staff began more frequently using the account in 2009 with President Obama sending her first personal Tweet in 2010 after claiming that:

“I have never used Twitter. My thumbs are too clumsy to type in things on the phone.”

If Obama’s staff can utilize social media as they did for the official BarackObama.com website during the last election cycle it could spell trouble for Republican candidates who have started their own runs at public office with decent social media campaigns.
