Pornography has actually been around for thousands of years now. They initially came in the form of either pottery from Greeks or Romans to even literal “porn hub” temples in India long before Christ was born. Still, it was only until recently that porn got declared as a public health crisis in one state in the US especially now that it’s a lot more ubiquitous.

The said US state is Arizona and the officials there are now determined to wage war on pornography. Arizona legislators have declared pornography a “public health crisis” and now want to prevent porn exposure, proliferation, or addiction, at least among the citizens of Arizona.

It is worth noting that their concern is more geared towards children who can now access porn easier than ever due to the internet. According to the legislators, “children are being exposed to pornography at an alarming rate, leading to low self-esteem, eating disorders, and an increase in problematic sexual activity at ever-younger ages.”

Despite that, they also deem adults as not safe when it comes to porn exposure, claiming that they are prone to suffering “toxic sexual behaviors, emotional, mental and medical illnesses and difficulty forming or maintaining intimate relationships.”

However, the lawmakers of Arizona want to reiterate that they are not intent on totally banning pornography but rather, providing better education to individuals and families regarding the harmful effects of pornography. Some of them are quite divided on the bill, of course.

“This bill, on its face, sounds like it might be a good idea, but it doesn’t have any teeth. It is a way for people to check off that box and make it look like they’ve done something,” according to Senator Victoria Steele. So far, porn being a public health crisis is only limited to the state of Arizona at the moment.
