Liam Neeson may star in action thrillers like Taken but the actor isn’t the biggest fan of guns. Para USA, the company that supplied the firearms for the movie Taken 3, has called on its customers to boycott Liam Neeson over anti-gun comments the actor made earlier this year.
Neeson told the Dubai-based newspaper Gulf News: “There’s too many f—ing guns out there. I think the [U.S.] population is like, 320 million? There’s over 300 million guns. Privately owned, in America. I think it’s a [expletive] disgrace. Every week now we’re picking up a newspaper and seeing, ‘Yet another few kids have been killed in schools.'”
It may seem strange that Neeson, who wields quite a few guns in the Taken franchise, would be an outspoken advocate for gun control. The actor explained this seemingly contradictory stance by saying that the violence in movies like Taken plays out like a cartoon.
Neeson said: “I could agree with that but, in my own head, I’ve drawn a line because I think it’s kind of cartoon violence, these sorts of movies.”
Still, gunmaker Para USA says that the actor doesn’t deserve the support of gun owners. In a Facebook page this weekend, Para USA called for a boycott of Liam Neeson movies.
Fans of Liam Neeson shoudln’t be too surprised about his stance on gun violence. The actor has spoken out several times in favor of stricter gun control laws.
