A new Ghostbusters movie starring Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd is probably never going to happen. But, there is a possibility that the franchise gets a reboot with an all-female cast.
A rumor started circulating earlier this year claiming that Pal Feig, the director behind Bridesmaids and The Heat, was in talks with Sony to reboot Ghostbusters with some of today’s best women comedians. Well, Bill Murray heard the rumor and he’s got a few things to say.
First, it would be awesome. Second, Melissa McCarthey and Kristen Wiig should pick up the proton packs.
Murray said: “Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny — God, she’s funny! I like this girl Linda Cardellini (“Mad Men”) a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.”
Bill Murray is pretty spot on with his casting choices. Paul Feig worked with Melissa McCarthey and Kristen Wiig on Bridesmaids and if Sony does green light his Ghostbusters project there’s a good chance he’ll turn to them again. Linda Cardellini and Emma Stone may be more of a stretch (we’re thinking Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph) but who knows.
Who would you cast in an all-female Ghostbusters? Do you agree with Bill Murray’s casting choices?
