Mistrial Declared In Michael Dunn Murder Case [Twitter Reacts]

Mistrial Declared Michael Dunn Trial

A mistrial was declared in the case against Michael Dunn, a Florida resident accused of murdering 17-year-old Jordan Davis in a Jacksonville convenience store parking lot on November 23, 2012. The judge instructed the jury that they could convict him on first degree murder, or they could consider lesser charges.

However, the jury announced Saturday night that it couldn’t come to an agreement on any of the charges, including second degree murder, manslaughter, justifiable homicide, or excusable homicide. Dunn was found guilty of three counts of attempted second degree murder for shooting at other teens in the car and one count of firing a gun into a car, reports ABC News.

Prosecutors alleged that Dunn fatally shot Davis after he asked the teen to turn his music down. Dunn testified in court that he feared for his life and believed Davis was going to kill him. So, he pulled out his gun and fired nine times at the car the teens were sitting in.

The mistrial announcement was big on Twitter, with people weighing in on the matter. The majority of users expressed their frustration at the verdict, believing that Dunn should have been found guilty of murder.

Some have compared the Michael Dunn trial to the trial of George Zimmerman in the killing of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. Like the current trial, the previous one also had racial overtones and claims of self-defense.
