Before Mark Wahlberg was a successful actor, he was a small-time crook. The actor was arrested when he was 16-year-old for assaulting Johnny Trinh.
Wahlberg was tried as an adult and served 45-days of a two year prison sentence. Well, now the actor wants to wipe his record clean. He’s asked for a pardon and at least one man, Johnny Trinh, thinks that he should get it.
Trinh said: I would like to see him get a pardon. He should not have the crime hanging over him any longer. He paid for his crime when he went to prison. I am not saying that it did not hurt when he punched me in the face, but it was a long time ago. He has grown up now. I am sure he has his own family and is a responsible man.
Trinh also cleared up rumors about the extent of his injuries. After the assault, rumors surfaced that Wahlberg had blinded Trinh in his left eye. Johnny said that while Wahlberg did injure him, he did not cause him to go blind.
Trinh added: He did hurt me, but my left eye was already gone. He was not responsible for that. I would like to see him get a pardon. He should not have the crime hanging over him any longer.
Wahlberg has not been granted a pardon for his crimes but he did put in a formal request to the Governor of Massachusetts. The actor said that he wants the pardon because he is trying to be a role model now.
Wahlberg said: Everyone has an opinion and has a reason why they think I’m doing it … I’ve been working very hard to correct a lot of mistakes that I made since the day that I woke up and realized, ‘You know what? I need to be a leader instead of a follower.’
